On April 22, 2022, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that post-graduation work permits (PGWP) expiring in 2022 are now going to be extended in Canada by up to 18 months.
Starting this summer, graduates with PGWPs expiring this year will qualify for an additional open work permit. An extra 18 months in Canada means more time for students to:
Gain work experience.
Continue networking and building professional relationships.
Prepare an Express Entry profile to improve your chances of qualifying for permanent residency.
The IRCC predicts that this policy update could benefit up to 50,000 applicants!
What is a Post-Graduation Work Permit?
PGWPs are available to students who graduate from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada and allow them to stay in Canada to work after graduation. Permits typically last from eight months to three years, depending on how long the student studied in Canada.
