Fanshawe College is a comprehensive college serving the greater London region by providing flexible learning arrangements and experiential education opportunities developed in response to labour market needs. One of Ontario’s largest colleges – with four campuses in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock – Fanshawe serves close to half a million people with a promise to educate, engage, empower and excite. Why Fanshawe College - Downtown
- Campus life: Fanshawe has gained a reputation for having one the best student experiences. Much of that is thanks to the Fanshawe Student Union which hosts 200+ clubs and events and is committed to supporting student success across all campuses. With 1000’s of international students from over 100 different countries there is plenty of support and opportunities to meet others through the International Centre and Students Services.
- Facilities: The London campus boasts state-of-the-art learning facilities in modern buildings set on 100 acres of stunning landscaped property. College Diploma - Baking and Pastry Arts Management
Students will learn from internationally-trained and award-winning faculty with extensive experience in the industry. At the heart of this program is extensive training in baking breads, cakes and pastries, while also learning all aspects of the culinary baking experience. Students explore and create modern-style desserts, chocolates, bonbons, petit fours and marzipan. Upper level students work on intricate, high-skilled patisserie products including tiered wedding cakes and artistic showpieces. They will hone their business management skills in courses such as small business planning, kitchen management, purchasing, sales and marketing, menu planning and bake and cafe shop design.
Students can expand their work experience and network with potential employers during a semester-long internship, and apply their knowledge in The Chef’s Table Restaurant and Cafe, on campus next to learning labs in Fanshawe College’s London Downtown Campus. Students may also choose to gain a global perspective during optional field trips to European partner schools.
College Diploma - Culinary Management
The Culinary Management program teaches the fundamentals of practical food production including knife skills, a wide variety of cooking styles in practical training labs, quantity food production in the restaurant, baking and more. Students will study Hospitality related theory and management courses, learn more about the theory and history of Wines, Beers and Spirits and how to pair with food.
Practical classes are taught in state-of-the-art culinary and baking lab facilities featuring the latest equipment. Gain practical, hands-on kitchen training either in teaching restaurant, The Chef’s Table at Fanshawe College, in downtown London, or while living and working on-site in kitchens of the fully operational, year-round Oakwood Resort in Grand Bend. Students will also gain work experience through a five-week field placement in the industry and large quantity cooking experience by participating in extracurricular and charitable events throughout the academic year.
Recruiters in the culinary industry visit annually to meet with students. Students may also participate in annual competitions and the program also partners with world-renowned schools in Italy and Switzerland to take part in international field trips.
