The Taste Of Manila returns to Toronto after two years of being placed on hold because of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Taste of Manila website (tasteofmanilacanada.com), it is “the biggest Filipino street festival outside of the Philippines.”
It is also dubbed “the largest Filipino Festival in North America outside the Philippines and considered one of Toronto’s biggest summer festivals since its inception in 2014,” as per blogTO.com.
“It showcases our Filipino culture here in Canada,” said Jonathan Pioquinto, GLOBE Education Manager, based in Toronto. “It’s a momentous event with many politicians participating, along with other cultures. They want to explore our culture and see the cultural presentations and shows. And of course, they love the Filipino food,” said Jonathan.
Toronto alone is home to over 250,000 Filipinos (ottawape.dfa.gov.ph) as of 2016, making it the city with the largest Filipino population, followed by Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Calgary respectively.
The event will take place on August 20 and 21st, at Bathurst Street at the corner of Wilson Avenue. It is expected to attract an estimated 350,000 people. The highlight – “Authentic Filipino cuisine.., offering thousands of attendees a chance to try lumpia, halo-halo, Lechon, pancit, and other food delights. Aside from that, there is also live music and performances, kids’ activities, and fashion shows. Filipino designers present unusual fabrics and introduce them to Toronto.” (rove.me)
“The event shows who we are as a people, our history, and what our culture and people can offer to Canada,” said Jonathan.
GLOBE will have a booth at the event to provide information to thousands of attendees on Canadian Diploma programs and International Student programs.
“With so much fraud, scams, and misinformation regarding the international student program, we need to be busy educating people. The Taste of Manila allows us to do that,” says Jonathan.
Along with brochures and information material, GLOBE will also introduce its newly launched newsletter for new Canadians called The S.E.C. which is an acronym for Settlement, Education, and Career. To get a copy of The S.E.C., visit TheSec.globalbridge-edu.com.
