The new Minister of Immigration Marc Miller, announced today that the first Express Entry draw targeted for 10 trades occupations will open this week.
This will emphasis on candidates with expertise in skilled professions, such as carpentry, plumbing, and welding.
It will be interesting to see the CRS cutoff score for these Trades occupations.
He reaffirmed that in addition to the general invitation rounds, these category-based selection rounds will continue throughout the year, and more information will be released in the following weeks.
“It’s absolutely critical to address the shortage of skilled trades workers in our country, and part of the solution is helping the construction sector find and maintain the workers it needs. This round of category-based selection recognizes these skilled trades workers as essential, and I look forward to welcoming more of these talented individuals to Canada.”
The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

What is Express Entry?
The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program for Canadian permanent residency are managed by the Express Entry application administration system.
Profiles created with the Express Entry system are evaluated on the basis of human capital factors such as work experience, occupation, language ability, education, and age.
They are assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System score and then ranked alongside the other applicants.
Invitations to apply are likely to be extended to the candidates with the highest scores.
