Officially known as the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), this post-secondary institution is a community of thinkers, creators and champions leading change and reimagining the workforce of tomorrow.
In 1916, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology doors opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with 11 students and a mandate to train veterans returning from the First World War. Over the years, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology matched community needs — as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic and as a Royal Canadian Air Force Wireless Training School during the Second World War. Fast forward to today and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s action-based learning, solution-focused research and industry partnerships are helping to shape the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs and pioneers. They equip students with essential skills for career success in industry.

College Diploma - Power Engineering Technology
Courses in power theory, thermodynamics and extensive lab training prepare students to take responsibility for complex power systems working as a plant operator or design, research or development assistant in industries like petroleum, petrochemical and refining.
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s Power Engineering Technology diploma arms students with the skills to become a third-class power engineer responsible for controlling large, complex power and process systems and performing production work in the operation and development of large-scale energy projects.
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology also offers flexible continuing education training for fifth to first-class to prepare students for ABSA exams, or they can pursue a bachelor’s degree with available transfer options.
In Canada, power engineering certification progresses from fifth to first-class (most advanced) and the ABSA is the pressure equipment safety authority for Alberta.
College Diploma - Energy Asset Management
Study the business side of the energy industry and learn about contracts, leases and regulatory obligations in preparation for a career in mineral and surface land management, well asset management or operations accounting.
Want to be a mover and a shaker in the oil and gas industry? Students in the Energy Asset Management program, they study the business side of the energy industry and learn to handle contracts, leases, regulatory obligations and accounting tasks. Students leave Southern Alberta Institute of Technology with the skills needed to confidently enter the high-demand field of energy asset management.
This program was created with the support of the Centre for Energy Asset Management Studies (CEAMS), an organization established to influence and promote Asset Management skills development within the energy sector.
This program requires valid language test results
Applicants interested in applying for direct admission, but are yet to complete an acceptable language test, can do so, but must provide valid results before receiving a final offer letter.
This program offers conditional admissions
For conditional admission, instead of submitting language proficiency test scores, applicants may complete English courses prior to the academic program. The length of the English course is determined based on the applicant’s level of English proficiency.
