In 1916, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology doors opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with 11 students and a mandate to train veterans returning from the First World War. Over the years, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology matched community needs — as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic and as a Royal Canadian Air Force Wireless Training School during the Second World War. Fast forward to today and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s action-based learning, solution-focused research and industry partnerships are helping to shape the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs and pioneers. College Diploma - Welding and Fabrication Technology
Prepare for a career as a welder through courses that combine theory and hands-on instruction and cover how to work with metals using industry processes and tools.
Develop into a well-rounded tradesperson with in-demand knowledge, skills and experience in the welding and fabrication industry. In this diploma program, students will gain welding and fabrication knowledge to allow them to interpret drawings, standards and specifications as well as an overview of welding codes. Students will learn about welding fabrication procedures while using current and emerging technologies.

Graduates of the Welding and Fabrication Technology program benefit from a high level of industry demand, having achieved recognized training equivalent to the four periods of the Welder apprenticeship program.

Note: This program meets the eligibility criteria for the Post-Graduation Work Permit program for international students as long as the student is enrolled in the on-campus delivery mode or completes more than 50% of the courses on campus (for the blended option). International students attending all classes online will NOT be eligible for a Post-Graduate Work Permit. International students are responsible for maintaining their eligibility throughout their studies.
College Diploma - Architectural Technologies
Gain the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to work as an architectural technologist for architectural firms, residential builders, and various companies involved in the construction industry.
Architectural technologists are involved in all stages of building design and construction. Through project-based learning that simulates and simplifies work practices, student’s gain experience in a supportive, learner-focused environment. They develop essential skills in a setting that’s modeled on real-world workplaces so they can hit the ground running when they graduate.
This two-year, four-semester program is one of the most complete foundation credentials for anyone interested in a career in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry and focuses on blending the science and practice of architectural technology. Southern Alberta Institute of Technology sees students learn best when they construct knowledge and meaning from a collaboration between their learning experiences and their ideas. Through this type of applied experiential education, they develop the connection of hand and mind through innovation, relevant content, engaging instructors and peers who also want meaningful careers.
Each semester is organized around a core project. These projects will involve both individual and group-based work through collaborative learning and teaching. There is an emphasis on learning by doing so students can develop the critical thinking skills required in a safe and supportive environment. This will enable them to approach problems that they will see in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. In the fourth semester, students complete a capstone project that pulls all their skills and knowledge together and helps set them up for the next leg of the journey into industry.
